Bermudian artists Jahbarri and The Healer present a compelling exploration of identity and heritage through their artistic journeys, richly influenced by their experiences in Peru.
Jahbarri Wilson (b. 1998), delves into his cultural roots and the mysteries of lost civilizations. His work reflects a profound curiosity about the native history of Bermuda, inspired by the rich tapestry of Peruvian indigenous culture. Through the lens of Retrofuturism, he imagines artifacts and ceremonial expressions that may have belonged to a forgotten society, resurrecting the essence of a thriving native culture.
The Healer (b. 1998), draws on her transformative experiences in the Amazon, where vivid dreams and nature’s simplicity shaped her artistic vision. Her creations, known as "Espiritu de la Selva," embody her inner selves guiding and nurturing life in the jungle. Emphasizing a playful engagement with her craft, she incorporates local teachings and elemental connections, culminating in a profound exploration of self that celebrates her roots and the healing power of nature.
Together, their works offer a dialogue on heritage, identity, and the intricate relationship between culture and self-discovery.
